The Locals’ Cultural Association in Makrochori, Imathia, in cooperation with the local Runners’ Club and the Municipality of Veria, held a memorial road race on Sunday, April 10, 2016, in order to commemorate the tragic loss of the 21 students, victims in 2003’s fatal car accident in Tempi. Children and adults of all ages honored the victims’ memory by running the 6km route connecting the Makrochori to Diavatos villages.
Under the slogan “You are not forgotten”, participation exceeded all expectations, with a final number of over 600 runners joining the race, as opposed to only 500 registered! Commemorative metals were awarded to the Top 3 winners (men and women) in the Adults, Secondary and Elementary School categories, while the first “21 Students Memorial Race” was flawlessly conducted, thanks to the valuable contribution from a crowd of volunteers, public institutions and sponsors – amongst them, DIOS Natural Mineral Water offering bottled water to the runners of this heartwarming event.
